Notice what holds
an ordinary day together.

Free sample reflection. No enrollment, saved progress or course credit. This is original editorial writing, not a quotation from a religious source.

Before the day gets away from you, think about one ordinary thing that went a little more easily because of another person.

Perhaps someone held a door when your hands were full. Perhaps a friend remembered to ask about something that mattered to you. Perhaps someone did the necessary work that rarely gets noticed.

Look a little closer.

What did that person give? It might have been time, attention, patience or effort. You do not need to turn the moment into a grand lesson. Simply noticing it can be enough.

Put it into your own words.

If it feels appropriate, tell them specifically what you appreciated. “Thank you for listening yesterday” can mean more than a general compliment. There is no need to share the conversation publicly.

Choose an optional next step.

Is there someone for whom you could make an ordinary moment a little easier? Offer something you can actually do, with room for them to decline.
